Ba Be Lake National Park, 270 km north of Hanoi, is an incredibly beautiful area boasting waterfalls, rivers, deep valleys, lakes and caves set amid towering peaks. The area is inhabited by members of the Zao, Hmong and Tay minorities. For the Vietnamese people the place has been full of magic and mystery for over 1500 years and the mystical lake has been the source of legend and folklore ever since people first settled in this area.
We’ll have early departure from Hanoi to Ba Be Lake for a 270 km drive. As we progress north, the scenery becomes more and more picturesque. From our scheduled lunch stop it is only around two and half hours to our destination. Arriving in Ba Be town by mid afternoon we will check into our guesthouse and then head out for a bit of exploration before the sunsets. (L, D)
After breakfast, we’ll board our private boat for a cruise on the lake. Weather permitting we can have a swim in crystal clear waters before having lunch on board. Following lunch, we’ll board our boat to the Tay village of Pac Ngoi. A visit to this small hamlet will enable us to witness how little the lives of the people in these remote areas have changed. We’ll have home stay for the night. (B, L, D)
This morning we will commence our return journey to Hanoi. En route we will make a stop at the interesting Thay Nguyen Ethnology Museum. Arrival back into Hanoi will be approximately mid afternoon. (B, L)
