Mai Chau is gateway to Northwest of Vietnam where inhabited by a Thai and H’mong ethnic minority groups. Mai Chau trek offers you not only discover cultures, custom, history but also have real experiences how life of ethnic minority people is. Three days Mai Chau trek will take you through scenic landscapes of remote villages, enjoy foods and local home make rice wines. You will be always warmly welcomed with hospitality of ethnic minority people.
After breakfast, we’ll depart Hanoi for Mai Chau. We will stop half of the way in Hoa Binh for refreshment before driving more 2 hours up to Mai Chau. Journey takes you through fields of tapioca and sugar cane as well as rice paddies. Upon arrival of Mai Chau, we will have lunch in a traditional stilt house of the Thai people, then driving for one hour to Sa Linh Village to begin our trekking. We’ll walk along gravel tracks and small paths, used by the locals to Van village. We’ll then stay overnight in Thai Ethnic family in a traditional long house. (L, D)
After breakfast, we start trekking through tropical rain forest, using the local tracks and passing through cornfields as we descend in to Mai Chau Valley. The trek usually takes around 3 hours and is quite steep in places. The scenery is stunning with terrace fields and impressive mountain and valleys. Lunch will be provided en route. We arrive at Buoc village of Thai ethnic minority people around 12:00 AM, and will have time to walk around this charming little village, enabling us to discover a little more about how the Thai people live. The hearty dinner tonight will be prepared with some special local dishes and homes make rice wines.
This morning, we’ll trek for a couple of hours passing through several more Thai hamlets. We walk on the valley floor and are surrounded by rice paddies and beautiful scenery. At the small village of Khoe we’ll meet up with our waiting vehicle and drive back towards Mai Chau. Lunch is again provided in Mai Chau and there is also the chance to do a little souvenir shopping before we return to Hanoi.
